Balances are of two kinds - one -> internal balance, our physical balance.. two -> work-life balance.

This blog is more on the latter, my status quo being that comprehensible realizations with respect to the former is yet to surface.

Since before last week, my days had been hectic. There was this onsite research that took me to Gurgaon-Delhi from Wednesday to Friday, then up on returning on Friday night, I slept and started packing on Sat, for I was shifting house (again!), on Sunday. So the weekend was occupied by packing shifting, unpacking & sleeping. Then from Monday through Saturday! I was getting 5-7 hours of sleep a day, and the other entire times, was working on my office projects (2-3 simultaneously), for the next Monday, that was yesterday, had 2 projects' presentation. Within all this rush, it so happened on Wed / Thursday (I forgot), that the design application that held the whole of my previous week's design CRASHED!!...Well, yeah I have been through this kind of phase. So, up on discovering that it was unrecoverable, I did the whole design in ONE DAY!..Of course having been working on the new software for over a week now has taught me new shortcuts, and I have gained speed. :D ..

Moving on, during this chaotic phase of my life my phone as well wanted my attention, considering the fact that because of my hectic schedule, I was not giving a damn about it in the name of not messaging friends. So, it did its part in seeking attention - got short circuited within itself that the battery was not standing for more than few hours, and..the bloody 3g wasn't working. 0_0

Not complaining, for I did somehow manage and of course it wasn't a big thing...(Oh the phone...Will look into it in the week to come).

Anyways now, post that busy-bee week till Saturday, I ended up sleeping almost the whole of Sunday and a little relaxing as well - a usual post busy days' response.

Now on Monday, that was yesterday, up on reaching home, I suddenly felt I had nothing to do. I mean, of course I had books to read, but still that adrenaline rush of having to finish fast wasn't there. Then I started thinking what to do and realized that in those times when I was officially free (vetti that is), I had developed some habits / activities that I used to follow - like for instance, shaping my nails, nail polishing, or segregating bills, sketching, and so on. That was when I realized why people prefer that work rush:

Basically it keeps your mind energized and distracted on to something that pays your bills and expenses, and it is that rush, that busyness which keeps you alive and active. In fact, I feel it is this reason why men, up on retiring are unable to stay home and still want to work. And, it is this reason that working men and women intentionally develop ambitious goals in terms of work and business & in the process tend to neglect family / social life (I am not at all implying it is anything wrong or negative at all. No offense meant). But, think it over - in the name of work rush, have you ever found 'good enough time' to explore yourself? As in, whether you are getting bald or your nails are long and beautiful that you can groom it well, or whether you have put waist line fat, or whenever you do one particular task that triggers your upper arm ache or your back aches, or that you seem to like brown better than black, or that you are good at cooking mexican food, and things like that ??

I guess that is where the work-life balance rests. That line between the exploration of your work self and your personal self. The former gives you that adrenaline rush, whereas the latter is more relaxed most of the times and hyper a few times. I am not saying the latter is better off. Rush is required as much as relaxation is required. It helps keep your brain active. All we have to do is, instead of planning on choosing to relax post retirement (which again might not happen even after retirement), it is better we give space for both these elements, now, in our day-to-day way of life.
