shAMITABH? (0R) SHamitabh?

Movie reviews are not my cup of tea but SHAMITABH .......................

I have a friend, who sits through the cast, crew and sponsor credits that gets enlisted after the movie completes. When I had come to know of this practice of his for first time, I was thinking - "What's the point? Weird it is!". But Shamitabh made me realise the point. It made me sit through the last listing, up till the sponsors.

Such is the effect that Shamitabh instills on its viewers.

Of all the elements that bind a movie, clearly for R.Balki, in this movie, the storyline takes the front seat, which is augmented by Ilayaraja's smooth, trendy, pleasant to the ears BGM and soundtrack.

Will the story standout without the music? No Doubt! It will make a classy and 'touchy' bestselling novel! On the other hand, will Ilaiyaraja's music (BGM in particular) make waves on its own without the video, context and scenes for his audio? Do I even need to state an opinion on that! His background score for this movie is nothing compared to his other hundreds. It will just carry you to a musical world never heard or been before.

But........... as a movie experience, one without the other is like life without emotion. Individually both have excelled in their expertise. But it is their togetherness that has made them present us with such a novel movie experience.

And this is essentially the gist of the story as well. Can 'Danish', being dumb as himself, mark his presence as an actor...by himself? He could. For, it was his skilled acting which had made him get accepted in the industry in the first place! A..n..d.., can 'Amitabh Sinha' make just his voice reach the audience, unmindful of whose face it wears? Well, may be he could. His voice did exclusively gain attention and fan followers, even though it was complimented by Danish's acting! But can these two individually capable elements, SUSTAIN....all by themselves?  Nah...may be not. For, the experience gets amplified only when the two merge - only when Danish acts, in the voice of Amitabh.

Its neither sh-AMITABH nor SH-amitabh. It is SHAMITABH.

Unlike soaps and other drama cum action action movies, Balki's representation of a strong negative emotion evoker - ego, in such a subtle yet effective manner adorns the overall movie experience. Also if you notice, the story plays with limited characters. But right from Akshara Hassan to Amitabh to that undertaker, all were so aptly cast and had admirably enacted with breathtaking dialogue deliveries that, the monotony of having to see the same 3-4 people frame after frame is almost not noticeable, but rather keeps you at the edge of your seat and makes you sail smoothly throughout the flow. As far as Dhanush, there is nothing much at stake for him in this movie. He has already proved his mettle as an actor, and this is just another feather in his cap. Probably the few assets for him could have been that - One, he gets to share screen space with the ever charismatic Amitabh Bachchan and almost equal him in his acting and two, the foremost, he gets to play a major part of such an unique and novel story.

There is a lot more I can write about the movie - like the sweet feeling you get from the Dhanush's expression when suddenly an enchanting 'Piddly' comes out of Amitabh's vocal chords, the intense emotional and admirable act that Amitabh enacts in the climax, the astonishingly wonderful dialogue delivery that Akshara produces with her 'Bas karo yaar' when she tries to stop both from fighting and preaches them the ABCD of life, the beautiful words written in every dialogue, the location, the direction... . . . .and what not.

But, I do not want to get into the nuances. Like how we don't eat anything else to sustain the taste in the mouth, I do not want to spill out in writing the precious feelings and emotions that I have gathered through the movie experience. For, I want them locked in me for as long as they can.

So, all in all, SHAMITABH - a movie worth watching for story, direction, screenplay, music, acting, cast, looks, costume cinematography, choreography and for all the other elements that had played even the tiniest role in the making this movie. So...going back to where I had started, my point of sitting through the credits is - Every one who has contributed to this movie even in a little possible way, deserves respect for their part. It is not just about the movie. It is about an amalgamation of skills, which were able to present this beautiful product, just so to entertain us and show us that novelty still reigns in this world. Such is its preciousness.
